Assistance in understanding the impact of employment on Social Security Benefits, and work incentives for individuals who receive Social Security Disability Insurance and/or Supplemental Security Income.
ALA-WIN (Alabama Work Incentives Network) is a statewide program that helps Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) beneficiaries, between the ages of 14 and 64, understand their work options so that they may make more informed choices regarding employment. The program provides information about federal, state and local work incentive programs and related issues.
The ALA-WIN program is administered by Independent Living Resources of Greater Birmingham, Inc., United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Birmingham, and the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services. These agencies make knowledgeable advocates, called Community Work Incentives Coordinators, available throughout the state to assist in understanding complex requirements of work incentive programs. These Community Work Incentives Coordinators are available on an ongoing basis to assist SSI and SSDI disability beneficiaries, family members and professionals with issues regarding medical benefits, Social Security, transition, public housing, Worker's Compensation, and much more.
As a part of the ALA-WIN program, recipients receive information about the availability of protection and advocacy services free of charge.
